Human Values Foundation

Life-enriching values for everyone

SEE banner

The SEE programme is focused on secondary school children of 12 to 14+ years.

SEE is a series of Lesson Modules based on five universal principal values, which transcend most religious and cultural differences.

This is a relatively new publication but already many teachers are finding it ideal for promoting a unifying, positive and relevant values culture in their schools, particularly when a ‘whole school approach’ is adopted, so that adults, as well as the learners, participate in the programme, building up a common ethos. As one commented, “If teachers expect learners to adhere to certain values, they themselves need to be role models.  It is therefore important that the staff agree on values that will guide themselves and the whole school”.

Children, who have experienced the Foundation’s Education in Human Values (EHV) programme in their Primary school, are pleased when they find their Secondary school provides them with the opportunity to build on the enjoyable experiences they had in their earlier years.

The modules are structured in such a way as to encourage and enable youngsters to explore and develop for themselves life skills that they can see will lead to greater fulfilment. They appreciate that the values provide them with a very helpful framework for the challenging decisions they face and the pressures they come under.

This programme is ideal for meeting the requirements of the curriculum for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) education; Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE); Citizenship/Democracy; and Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL). Many professionals leading courses for children with a variety of special needs, sometimes in a slightly older age group, also find the SEE publication extremely useful and comment on how readily they have been able to adapt the material if necessary and how the students benefit from and enjoy the experience.

A number of specialist teachers, who are involved with giving additional guidance to young people with social difficulties or have a pastoral role, have found the materials extremely useful. Also, when they are assisting an older age group, they have expressed their delight at how easily they have been able to adapt the lesson modules slightly and yet still gain the enormous benefits the programme offers.
