The HVF in Scotland
I joined the Human Values Foundation (HVF) in October 1999 and began by contacting some schools in Edinburgh.
Schools throughout the whole of Scotland, from Shetland to the Borders, have been reached, with more than 200 now using the Education in Human Values (EHV) programme. Five years ago, my area of contact expanded to include the north of England and many schools in the counties of Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria are now using the EHV programme.
I could not do this work if I did not believe in the value of the EHV programme, the need for it and the fact that, once it is in place in the school as part of the ethos, it can actually ease the tensions of the work, by creating a happier, more peaceful atmosphere among pupils and staff.
